It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Wenbo Zhang, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, age 86, at CHUM hospital on October 9, 2020. Wenbo fought a brave battle with cancer, diabetes, and heart disease which led to his death.  

Mr. Wenbo Zhang was born on Feb. 14, 1934 in Hubei, China into a family of medical doctors. He was the third son of the late Pinqing Zhang and Junxian (nee: Li) Zhang. In 1938, Japan invaded his hometown and killed his grandfather and other relatives. All his adult male family members joined anti-Japanese resistance. He, his mother, and his sister went into hiding. After World War II, he studied very hard and was selected to study in Europe. He decided not to follow the family tradition of pursuing a career in medicine and instead became an engineer. From 1963 to 1996, he worked as engineer, rising through the ranks to become a chief engineer and senior executive in the automobile industry. He made significant contributions in building and developing the Chinese automobile industry and was awarded National “Innovation” and “Major engineering contribution” medals and promoted to be the national engineering fellow. He moved to Montreal to be close to his eldest daughter and continue to service the minority community as a translator and as a member of local churches.

Wenbo was a very kind, friendly, loving, and a hardworking provider. He was all about his family and the love of his life, Kuiling (nee: Wang) Zhang. They married in 1964 and spent most of their married life in Chongqing and Montreal. He is survived by his daughters, grandchildren, and extended family. His love will always be with us!
