It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend Savvas Antonas.
To know Savvas was to love him. He was a kind, charming, honest, hardworking, reliable, loyal man whose sweet smile warmed the heart of everyone he met.
Savvas was a loveably stubborn perfectionist with a keen eye for detail. Among his many jobs, he worked in construction and even helped build the Olympic stadium (which, as his wife lovingly joked, is why its roof eventually collapsed). Savvas had the best sense of humor and an ability for storytelling that always made you want to pull up a chair to stay and laugh a little while longer.
Perseverant and curious, he taught himself to use the internet. He would spend hours reading all the Greek newspapers he could find and browsing cooking sites for recipe inspiration. One of his great passions was spending time in the kitchen creating his own special delights for his family to enjoy.
A longtime taxi driver, he could give turn-by-turn directions and never confuse a street name. He was our guiding light whenever we were lost, in every sense of the word. He always knew just what to say to help us find our way. He always did the right thing and did it with so much heart and so much pride that it was impossible not to feel inspired to do the same.
For him, the sun rose and set with his family. Every day and every action were humbly devoted to benefitting his loved ones in some way, big or small. His kids and grandkids lit up his life, and his wife, Maria, was his sun. Wherever life led them, whether they reveled in the happy times or weathered the difficult ones, they braved the journey together. Always together.
Now, although he has embarked on a faraway journey, we will keep him forever close in our hearts.
We love you always.

I have known Mr. Savvas Antonas daughter Despina (Debbie) for well over 20 years and she would often talk very highly of her father. Reading the words on his life on this page was a wonderful tribute to him and exactly how she described him throughout the years. Truly a great family man who came to Canada and built a wonderful life for him and his family. Our sincere condolences to the entire family.
