Elisabeth Kopystecka (née Nitecka) passed away at the age of 96.

A beloved mother and grandmother, she is survived by her four children, Lucien-Marc, Peter (Monique), Elizabeth (late husband Kim) and John (Maria) and her grandchildren Evan, Kelly-Anne, Helen, Gwyn, Jessie, Kaylee and Paul (passed).

In the rich narrative of her life, she endured the struggles of war-torn Poland, was orphaned at 16, and persevered through the haunting shadow of Nazi Germany. Following the war, she attained a social work degree in Belgium. The subsequent chapters of her journey unfolded in the Belgian Congo, where she began her family, and Montreal, where her career in social work took root.

Transitioning seamlessly into the pivotal role of a devoted full-time mother, she found purpose in active participation in school committees. A rekindling of her social work passion manifested in her dedication to assisting numerous Polish refugees fleeing Communist Poland. She then gracefully embraced the twilight years, completing the circle of her life by assuming the endearing role of Babcia (Grandma), contributing to the upbringing of her grandchildren.

Mom (Babcia), you were the unwavering pillar of support – adept at guiding us through various personal and academic challenges, always encouraging us in various extracurricular and athletic pursuits. Whether engrossed in casual conversations over coffee or sharing moments adorned with napoleons and cheesecakes, your presence was a constant source of comfort.

Up until your very last day, the anticipation of your daily coffee at Tim Horton's with your devoted son, Peter, remained a cherished ritual. His unwavering care and dedication were a testament to the wonderful mother you were.

The highest compliment a child can bestow upon a mother is the heartfelt recognition of her being an incredible mom. As we bid farewell, may you find eternal peace, surrounded by the echoes of the love, joy, and choices that characterized your remarkable journey.

This bird has found her mother.
