It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Emmanuel Magafourakis, on June 28, 2023, at the age of 86. He was a caring husband, devoted father, proud and loving pappou, dear brother, uncle and friend who touched the lives of many with his kind soul and big heart.
Emmanuel was born in the village of Haraso, Pediados in the prefecture of Heraklion, Crete on October 11th 1936. There he courted and married his beloved Pelagia, and soon after had their first daughter, Maria. In 1968, Emmanuel immigrated to Montreal along with his wife and daughter and a few years later, they had their second daughter, Katerina. Together in this new and foreign land, they worked extremely hard and bore many sacrifices to provide the best opportunities for their daughters.
Emmanuel had a profound love for his homeland and preserved his Greek culture, customs and traditions, never forgetting his roots and passing on his love for Crete onto his children and grandchildren. He was a passionate soccer fan, never missing the opportunity to talk about his favorite Greek teams, OFI and AEK, with his grandsons. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, tending to his garden or just sitting in his backyard and enjoying the sunshine. Let us not forget the joy he found in cooking and baking, whether it was making pizza for the grandkids or baking his famous pies.
It is difficult to summarize 86 years of an amazing man’s life in a few lines; however, what shall be said is that Emmanuel leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion. He dedicated his life to his family, and taught them the importance of cherishing, and loving one another. Appreciated and loved by many, Emmanuel will always be remembered with fondness and love, as a wonderful man and a fine gentleman.
Emmanuel will be forever remembered and adored by his devoted wife of 58 years, Pelagia (Bella) (Pachiadakis), his children Maria (Angelos Papadatos) and Katerina (Peter Kremmydiotis), as well as his grandchildren Peter-Alexander (Adriana), Emmanuel (Maria), Nikolas and Manoli.
He will be deeply missed by his siblings Konstantinos (Evangelia), George (Georgia) and Maria (Emmanuel), along with his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends here and in Greece.
May Emmanuel’s soul find eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Emmanuel’s memory to École Socrates-Démosthène. https://hcgm.org/in-lieu-of-flowers/
