In loving memory Mrs. Maria Podlesna Gatkowski passed away November 1, 2023
at the age of 98.
Born and raised in Kiev Russia along with 10 siblings until she was taken as a teenager to work on forced labor farms in Germany during the war and later relocated to Belgium. Following liberation she and her husband chose to live a free life and raise their children in Canada.
She is predeceased by her husband Eugene Gatkowski . She leaves behind her son Seigfried Gatkowski, ( predeased Nicole ) a daughter Adele Gatkowski Czlonka, and grandchildren David Gatkowski , Marc Gatkowski , Carey James Czlonka and Melanie Czlonka. Her great grandchildren Justin, Loic , Yann, and Kassandra . As well as her nieces and nephews in Canada and remaining family and relatives in Poland. The family thanks the caregivers of CHSLD Saint-Laurent. Services will be held at Complex Aeterna, 55 rue Gince, Montreal. Viewing will be on Tuesday November the 14 at 4:00 pm to 9:00. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday November the 15 at 9:00 am followed by the crypt interment at Notre Dame Des Neiges Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer and Heart Associations of Montreal.
She will always be remembered as a person who did it all but asked for nothing in return.
