We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Eustratios Giannacopoulos at age 98.
Hailing from the village of Sellasia, outside of Sparti, Laconia, Eustratios immigrated to Canada in pursuit of building a better life and a family. Through the years, he successfully attained these aspirations with hard work and the consistent love and support of his family.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Efstathia, his children Helen and Demetrios (Lisa), his grandchildren, Peter (Marina), Thomai Amy (Jonathan), Steven (Sabrina), Julia (Leslie), and his great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Anna.
Eustratios loved his sisters Marika, Chrysoula, and Athena and their families fiercely and centered much of his energy around his loved ones.
Eustratios, also widely known as Pappou, took joy in simple daily pleasures beginning with his morning coffee at McDonald’s conversing with friends. During the summer, Eustratios could be found enjoying the outdoors working in his garden, and watching his grandchildren play soccer and Greek dance.
He was a vibrant and charismatic member of his local community who will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
We would like to thank the staff at Hôpital Sacré-Cœur for their attentive and compassionate care in the final days of Eustratios’ life.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask a donation be made In Memoriam to the Montréal Sacré-Cœur Hospital Foundation.

I remember meeting Pappou when I gave him an extra ticket to see Amy in a first grade school show. This turned into a friendship that lasted through years of soccer practices and tournaments.
