It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen Katsianis (née Hatzidis) on January 1, 2025 at the age of 93, surrounded by her loved ones.
Helen was born in Liantina, Laconia, Greece and immigrated to Canada where she married Peter Katsianis, her devoted husband of over 59 years, who predeceased her. She leaves behind to mourn their cherished and devoted daughter Stavroula.
Helen was predeceased by her sister Eleftheria and brother-in-law John Maniatis, her sister Vassiliki and brother-in-law John Tsarouhas, her sister Anthoula and brother-in-law George Makropoulos, her sister-in-law Maria (Pantelis Katsianis), her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Georgia and George Cyriacopoulos and by her nephew Homer Katsianis.
In addition to her daughter Stavroula, she is survived and will be deeply missed by her brothers-in-law Pantelis and Omiros Katsianis, by her nieces and nephews Krina Maniatis, Chris and Anna Maniatis and their children and grandchildren, Peter Tsarouhas, Vivian and Peter Pamel and their children, Voula and Steve Giannakakis and their children, John and Carmella Cyriacopoulos and their children, Homer Cyriacopoulos and his children and Mary and Anthony D’Annessa, as well as by relatives and friends in Greece and the United States.
Helen’s legacy of love, kindness, hard work and dedication to family will forever remain in the hearts of all those she leaves behind.
The family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care Helen received from Dr. Nathaniel Bouganim, the physicians, nurses and support staff at the Cedars Cancer Centre over the course of many years during Helen’s battle with cancer.
The family will receive condolences at Aeterna Funeral Complex (55 rue Gince, Saint-Laurent QC H4N 1J7) on Wednesday January 8, 2025 from 4pm to 9pm. The funeral service will take place on Thursday January 9, 2025 at 11am at Greek Orthodox Church of The Archangels Michael and Gabriel (11801 Av. Élie-Blanchard, Montreal QC H4J 1R7).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the Cedars Cancer Foundation (cedars.ca).
