It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ayodhya Nath Srivastava (known to many as A.N. or Ian), son of Janki and Bhagwat Prasad, and a beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather, who left his body on February 16, 2026, at the age of 84.
Born in Basti, India, in 1941, he carried with him the rich traditions and strong values of his homeland. A microbiologist by profession, he received his first master’s degree from Lucknow University and left India in 1967, alongside his wife Shanta, herself a biologist, to pursue higher studies in Copenhagen, Denmark. Together they immigrated to Canada, in 1968, where they completed their education at McGill University. Through hard work and perseverance, they built a new life in Montreal, where they settled and had their 2 daughters, Seema and Jaya.
A.N. was a humble man defined by integrity, generosity, love and compassion. He believed deeply in the power of education, the spirit of service, the value of faith and the importance of family. He gave freely of his time, wisdom, and resources, always encouraging others to learn, grow and give to those who were less fortunate. His door was always open, his advice steady, and his heart expansive. He was a quiet source of strength and a guiding light to many who he led by example.
He will be dearly missed but his legacy lives on through his wife Shanta, his daughters Seema and Jaya, his grandchildren Jeevan and Nitya and his sisters, Sheela and Usha.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his extended family and friends whose lives he has touched.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Complexe Funéraire Aeterna et Crématorium (55 rue Gince, Saint-Laurent, Québec, H4N 1J7) at 9:30am followed by the cremation at 12pm.
In order to honour one of Ayodhya Nath Srivastava’s lifelong dreams, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to https://gofund.me/ecf427ee9 , the proceeds of which will go to supporting a school in Basti, India.
