Pelagia Magafourakis (née Pachiadakis)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pelagia (Bella) Magafourakis, on February 22^nd, 2026, at the age of 79.

Pelagia was a caring wife, devoted mother, proud and loving grandmother, great-grandmother, dear sister, aunt, cousin and friend who touched the lives of many with her generosity, strength and unwavering faith.

She was born on March 9^th, 1946, in Haraso, Pediados in the prefecture of Heraklion, Crete. There she met and married her beloved husband, Emmanuel, beginning a life together rooted in love, sacrifice and deep devotion to family. Soon after, they welcomed their first daughter, Maria.

On February 25^th, 1968, Pelagia immigrated to Montreal with Emmanuel and little Maria, embracing a new and unfamiliar land with courage and determination. A few years later, they welcomed their second daughter, Katerina. Together, she and Emmanuel worked tirelessly, making countless personal sacrifices to provide their daughters with the best opportunities and instilling in them the values of faith, hard work and family unity.

Pelagia was the heart of her family. She was a nurturing, loving and devoted mother and grandmother who was never more fulfilled than when she was in the company of her daughters, her sons-in-law, her four grandsons, her two granddaughters-in-law and her sweet great-grandson. Her love for them was unconditional and unwavering. She was generous beyond measure with both family and friends, always ready to provide for them, to cook, to host, or simply to listen. She always said it as it was — honest, direct and sincere — and those who knew her valued her strength and authenticity.

Her faith in God was profound and steadfast. It guided her throughout her life and sustained her during her greatest trials. A breast cancer survivor, she demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience. Over the past 17 months, she bravely battled ovarian cancer, fighting with courage and dignity until God called her home on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning so she can go celebrate Lent and Easter among the angels.

It is difficult to summarize a lifetime of love, sacrifice and devotion in a few lines; however, what shall be said is that Pelagia leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, immense generosity and deep love for her family. She dedicated her life to those she cherished most and taught them, through her example, the importance of loving and supporting one another.

Pelagia will be forever remembered and adored by her children, Maria (Angelos Papadatos) and Katerina (Peter Kremmydiotis); her cherished grandchildren, Alexi Papadatos (Adriana Theodosopoulos), Mano Papadatos (Maria Kostakis), Niko and Manoli Kremmydiotis; and her treasured great-grandson, Angelos Romanos. She will be deeply missed by her siblings George (Chrysanthi), Maria, Vaggelis and Mihalis (Katerina), her in-laws Kostas (Vaggelio), Giorgos (Georgia), Maria (Manolis) along with her nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends here and in Greece.

May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory be eternal.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to St-George Cathedral, dedicated in memory of Pelagia Magafourakis.

Με βαθιά θλίψη ανακοινώνουμε τον θάνατο της αγαπημένης μας Πελαγίας Μαγκαφουράκη, στις 22 Φεβρουαρίου 2026, σε ηλικία 79 ετών.

Η Πελαγία ήταν μια στοργική σύζυγος, αφοσιωμένη μητέρα, περήφανη και λατρευτή γιαγιά και προγιαγιά, αγαπημένη αδελφή, θεία, ξαδέρφη και φίλη που άγγιξε τις ζωές πολλών με τη γενναιοδωρία, τη δύναμη και την βαθιά πίστη της.

Γεννήθηκε στις 9 Μαρτίου 1946, στο Χαρασό, Πεδιάδος, στο Ηράκλειο Κρήτης. Εκεί γνώρισε και παντρεύτηκε τον αγαπημένο της σύζυγο, Μανώλη, και μαζί ξεκίνησαν μια ζωή γεμάτη αγάπη, θυσίες και βαθιά αφοσίωση στην οικογένεια. Λίγο αργότερα ήρθε στον κόσμο η πρώτη τους κόρη, η Μαρία.

Στις 25 Φεβρουαρίου 1968, η Πελαγία κι ο Μανώλης, μαζί με την μικρή Μαρία, έφυγαν για το Μόντρεαλ ξεκινώντας μια νέα ζωή σε μια άγνωστη χώρα με θάρρος και επιμονή. Λίγα χρόνια μετά γεννήθηκε η δεύτερη κόρη τους, η Κατερίνα. Δούλεψαν σκληρά και έκαναν αμέτρητες θυσίες για να δώσουν στα παιδιά τους τις καλύτερες ευκαιρίες μαθαίνοντάς τους ταυτόχρονα την αξία της πίστης, της σκληρής δουλειάς και της οικογένειας.

Η Πελαγία ήταν το επίκεντρο και η καρδιά της οικογένειας. Δεν υπήρχε μεγαλύτερη χαρά για εκείνη από το να είναι κοντά στις κόρες της, στους γαμπρούς της, στα εγγόνια της και ιδιαίτερα στο γλυκύτατο της δισεγγονάκι. Η αγάπη της για όλους ήταν απέραντη και αληθινή. Ήταν πάντα πρόθυμη να προσφέρει βοήθεια σε όποιον είχε ανάγκη και ν’ ανοίξει το σπίτι της για να φιλοξενήσει φίλους και γνωστούς.  Ντόμπρα και τίμια γυναίκα, έλεγε πάντα τα πράγματα όπως ήταν — με ειλικρίνεια και αυθεντικότητα. 

Η πίστη της στον Θεό ήταν βαθιά και τη στήριξε σε όλη της τη ζωή, ιδιαίτερα στις δύσκολες στιγμές. Πριν 15 χρόνια, αντιμετώπισε και ξεπέρασε τον καρκίνο του μαστού με μεγάλη ψυχική δύναμη. Τους τελευταίους 17 μήνες πάλεψε γενναία με τον καρκίνο των ωοθηκών, με θάρρος και αξιοπρέπεια, μέχρι που ο Θεός την κάλεσε κοντά Του ένα όμορφο, ηλιόλουστο κυριακάτικο πρωινό την ώρα που ξεκινούσε η Θεία λειτουργία, για να γιορτάσει τη Σαρακοστή και το Πάσχα μαζί με τους αγγέλους.

Η πιο όμορφη παρακαταθήκη που μας αφήνει είναι η βαθιά της πίστη, η ταπεινότητα και η δύναμή της, η απέραντη γενναιοδωρία της και, πάνω απ’ όλα, η αγάπη της για την οικογένειά της — μια αγάπη αληθινή και ακούραστη.

Η Πελαγία θα μείνει για πάντα στις καρδιές των παιδιών της, της Μαρίας (Άγγελος Παπαδάτος) και της Κατερίνας (Παναγιώτης Κρεμμυδιώτης), των αγαπημένων της εγγονιών, Αλέξη Παπαδάτου (Αδριάνα Θεοδοσόπουλος), Μάνου Παπαδάτου (Μαρία Κωστάκη), Νίκου και Μανώλη Κρεμμυδιώτη, καθώς και του πολύτιμου δισέγγονού της, Άγγελου Ρωμανού. Θα λείψει πολύ στα αδέλφια της, στον Γιώργο (Χρυσάνθη), στη Μαρία, στον Βαγγέλη και στον Μιχάλη (Κατερίνα), στα κουνιάδια της, Κώστα (Βαγγελιώ), Γιώργο (Γεωργία), Μαρία (Μανώλης), καθώς και στα ανίψια, τα ξαδέλφια και τους αγαπημένους της φίλους εδώ και στην Ελλάδα.

Καλό ταξίδι αγαπημένη μας. Καλό παράδεισο και αιωνία η μνήμη σου.

Αντί για λουλούδια , η οικογένεια παρακαλεί να τιμήσετε τη μνήμη της Πελαγίας με δωρεά στον Ιερό Καθεδρικό Ναό Αγίου Γεωργίου.
