She had turned 67 the day before her passing. Rekha will be deeply missed by her husband of 36 years Suresh (Bob) and son Siddharth (Sid). Pre-deceased by her brother Sandeep in 2001 she is survived by her siblings Alka Kanaka and Pradeep all in India. She will no doubt be fondly remembered by her extended family & friends in India Montreal and elsewhere in the world. Rekha was a fiercely independent woman who had a healthy interest in living the good life. After arriving in Montreal in 1980 she found time to complete a double-major in philosophy/psychology a Masters degree in philosophy and to become a certified aerobics instructor all while raising her son during his formative years. She had a passion for keeping her body & mind in shape: she worked out at a local gym almost six days a week and could recite several chapters of the Bhagavad Gita and other Sanskrit texts from memory. Her secular outlook enabled her to visit St. Joseph’s Oratory every Friday without fail where she meditated and prayed. During the latter part of her life Rekha was an avid collector of music boxes watches handbags and even knives!! She also grew a fond interest in completing various knitting projects the last of which is displayed in the adjoining picture. Despite having undergone a heart valve replacement in 2010 she went on to travel to numerous countries across the world and perform parasailing/zip-lining activities. The family wishes to offer its heartfelt thanks to the ICU and palliative care units of the Jewish General Hospital. May her soul rest in Peace.
