Surrounded by his family in his final days, Nicolaos “Nick” Klironomos, passed away on November 27, 2022, in Laval at 83 years of age.  Nick was born in Talanta, Lakonias, Greece on March 12, 1939, to Maroulio & Ioannis Klironomos.  He was a devoted husband to Panagiota Groubou for 56 years and he was a loving father who thrived on every interaction with his immediate and extended families.  His children, John, Mary (Gaylene Higgs), and Gia (Michael Little) consider themselves very lucky to have Nick for their father.  Nick loved spending time with his grandchildren Anemone, Nicholas, Artie, Alexander, and Lillian, and they in turn dearly loved their Pappou.  He is survived by his loving wife Panagiota Groubou and siblings Polixeni, George, Kalomira, and Tasia.  He was predeceased by his brothers Manoli, Panagioti, and Kosta.

Nick emigrated from Greece in 1964, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, by ship and then took a train to Montreal.  A train route that incidentally passed within sight of two businesses to be operated in future years by the parents of his future son-in-law, Michael.  Nick worked as a chef in several restaurants in Montreal until his retirement and he was well known for keeping a spotless kitchen that continually produced excellent food.

Along with Panagiota, Nick was an avid gardener at his home in Laval and some might have described the pair as farmers.  They produced bumper crops of tomatoes, cucumbers, and other vegetables each summer in quantities that far exceeded their potential for consumption and so they supplied family and neighbours, as well.

Nick spent his final year of life at Manoir St-Patrice in Laval, and he had the good fortune of forming a close bond with his roommate Peter.  The two greatly enjoyed one another’s company and Peter grew to be protective of Nick ensuring that he was well cared for.  Sadly, Peter passed away recently on October 23, 2022.  We know that Nick is back gardening and enjoying his time with family and friends that have passed before him, including his dear friend Peter.  Nick always said that he was looking forward to seeing his mother again, who passed away when Nick was just 10 years old.  We are certain that he is now in her loving arms.

We wish to thank the staff at Manoir St-Patrice in Laval for their compassionate care of Nick.  We are eternally grateful to the nurses that cared for Nick in his final hours ensuring that he was comfortable and without pain.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Aeterna Funeral Complex, 55 rue Gince, St. Laurent, QC, where the viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 30, from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm.  The funeral will take place at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 3780 Chemin du Souvenir, Laval, QC, at 10 am on December 1, 2022.  Nick will be interned at the Notre-Dame-de-l'Espérance Cemetery, 1759 Antoine Dalmas, Laval, QC.  Online condolences can be made by visiting: https://complexeaeterna.com.  Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada are welcome (https://alzheimer.ca).
