Maria Kafenzakis (nee Papaconstantinou) (1918-2020),
It is with heavy a heart that we announce the passing of our beloved mother on June 22, 2020 at the age of 101. Maria Kafenzakis, the wife of the late Costas Kafenzakis, left to mourn her are her children: Dimitri (Amalia), Nick (Ginette), Micheal (Linda) and Katina (Mitch). She was known as Yiayia to her grandchildren: Maria, Mackenzie (Kara), Kostas, Kristina (Thomas), Louka (Dimitra), Christopher (Amelie), Matthew (Gianna), Anna-Maria, Elizabeth, Alexandra (Micaël), Costa, they were her pride and joy. She also leaves behind her cherished 15 great-grandchildren, as well as her Godchildren Seva and Toula and her very special friends, Soteiria and Poppi.
Maria grew up in the beautiful village of Paradisi, Rhodes, Greece with her 6 siblings: the late Kiriakoula, Argyro, Lucas, and Ioannis. She is survived by her sisters Despina, Georgia, and her sister-in-law, Vasilia. In 1957, Maria traveled across the Atlantic with her four children to be reunited with her husband after 5 years of absence. This was the beginning of their life together in Canada. The family opened a restaurant called “Miss Verdun”, where Maria became better known as “Ma” to hundreds of teenage customers. Maria spent many years sharing her time between Greece and Canada. She was the matriarch of our family who taught us the value of hard work, sacrifice, love, and above all, family.
She will be greatly missed. "Mom, we can no longer see you with our eyes or touch you with our hands, but we will feel you in our hearts forever".
Είθε η ψυχή της να αναπαυθεί εν ειρήνει.
Due to governmental guidance and applicable measures, the ceremony will be held at the precedence of only a few close family members, and friends. Your solidarity could be shown by praying at a distance.
