Funeral announcements at the complex

Nis Moller

1960-2025 October 11, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nis Moller, who died at his home in Montreal on October 11, 2025, at the age of 65.

Nis is lovingly remembered by his mother, Kirsten Moller, his brother, Jon Moller, and his sister, Johanne Moller (Tim Pierce). He will also be missed by his niece and nephew, Nomi and Magnus Pierce, his niece, Sonja Moller, along with many extended family members and his lifelong and loyal friends. He was predeceased by his father, Fred Moller.

Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Nis moved to Canada with his family as a child. He earned a Philosophy degree from Queen’s University and a Law degree from McGill University. He was called to the bar in both Ontario and Quebec, and went on to work as a respected and in-demand legal translator. He was gifted with a remarkable talent for learning new languages, so his love of languages and culture made Montreal the perfect home for him, where he valued the city’s French language and European atmosphere.

Outside of his professional life, Nis was an avid birder, music lover, and reader. He was mentored by Dr. Kenneth Edwards, a long-standing member of the Kingston Field Naturalists, who inspired and guided him to become an expert birder. In music, Nis learned oboe and piano in his youth and later returned to the piano, spending much of his time working on Beethoven’s later sonatas, especially Opus 101, which he loved to play daily. He also loved literature, reading widely across genres but especially treasuring the classics, which he revisited throughout his life.

Nis was also passionate about the outdoors. In his younger years, he enjoyed cross-country skiing, squash, and sailing, competing in races with his father, including events at CORK in Kingston. In later years, he kept active through daily walks and a strong commitment to healthy living.

He will be remembered for his intelligence, wit, and kindness. Nis was deeply curious, thoughtful, and caring toward his family and friends.

In recent years, Nis lived with Parkinson’s disease, which progressed quickly. He faced his illness with strength and courage. His passing is a great loss to all who knew and loved him.

A private gathering to celebrate Nis’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in his memory to the Kingston Field Naturalists.
