It is with heartbreaking sadness that we announce the passing of Joshua Miller, the loving son of Lily McGregor and David Miller, brother of Cassandra Miller and Mike Miller, and stepson to Peter McGregor. Josh was a passionate teacher who dedicated the past 10 years of his life to supporting students in the Community of Whapmagoostui, where he fell in love with the northern way of life and ancestral traditions. Josh embarked on this path when he was introduced to Youth Fusion in 2010, and worked as a Media Coordinator to organize and conduct both regular in-class workshops and extra-curricular activities with the focus of engaging students in their academic development through media and artistic activities at Badabin Eeyou School in Whapmagoostui. Once he completed his teaching qualifications he headed back to Whapmagoostui and took a teaching position at Wasimauttaq school, as an art Teacher, and later as Head of the Special Needs Department at Badabin Eeyou School where he focused on students with special needs. Josh cared deeply about his students and took pride in being the best resource he could be, always expanding his professional development to include more tools that could support and heal. Josh loved his life in Whapmagoostui and hoped to, one day, get a plot of land where he could build a home and be a permanent member of the community.
Josh leaves a legacy of kindness and generosity. A beautiful ethereal northern light, his impact will live on through every person and child he supported, loved and cared for. He will forever be in our hearts to shine a light on the importance of loving, being kind and generous of spirit.
The family will be holding a private closed service. A memorial event celebrating Josh’s life will be held in Toronto, details will follow. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Youth Fusion and/or any charity supporting mental health.
Envoyez vos messages de condoléances.
